What do you guys do to cheer yourself up when you're feeling utterly crap, exhausted and generally fed up? Any ideas would be much appreciated :) x x

Author Peter Ames Carlin talks about the life of Paul McCartney
ImageHut
The cover of "Paul McCartney: A Life" by Peter Ames Carlin. (Touchstone)

Peter Ames Carlin's recently released book, "Paul McCartney: A Life," is a fan-friendly biography of the former Beatle. It features interviews with many of McCartney's friends and tries to cover his life without going for the jugular. We recently asked him some questions about the book and the Beatle by email.

Paul McCartney has really become one of the biggest stars in the entertainment world. Can you cite a turning point in his career where things really kicked into high gear?:  )

The other night, Chelsea Handler joked to Justin Bieber that she would help him knock John Mayer out of the way in this week’s album sales race. However, judging by Billboard’s early estimates, it’ll take a lot more than the E! host’s quips to slay Mayer’s Battle Studies.

Here’s how the industry mag sees things panning out, sales-wise, by the time final numbers start rolling in for the week’s top releases:

* John Mayer, Battle Studies (275,000 to 300,000 copies)

* Casting Crowns, Until The Whole World Hears (175,000)

* 50 Cent, Before I Self Destruct (150,000)

* Norah Jones, The Fall (150,000)

* Justin Bieber, My World (100,000)

* Kris Allen, Kris Allen (90,000)

* Them Crooked Vultures, Them Crooked Vultures (75,000)

* Leona Lewis, Echo (50,000 to 60,000)

* Paul McCartney, Good Evening New York City (50,000 to 60,000)

Ouch! What has happened to Kris Allen? If his figures stick to 90,000, he’ll kick Jordin Sparks out of the unenviable position of having the lowest first-week sales yet for any American Idol winner’s debut album.

Meanwhile, you can’t say Justin Bieber isn’t trying his best to get through to his chief opponent. Earlier this week he sent this Twitter message to Mayer: “…congrats on your new album but me and my ladies are gunning for that #1 spot on itunes. lol. maybe we can jam one day”

Last night he softened his tone a bit: “Roses are red violets r blue and someone tell @johncmayer to call me for musical reasons…”

But finally, Justin’s ire returned with a vengeance: “Ummm I haven’t got a hold of @johncmayer Bieber fans attack his Twitter”

Thus far, there’s been no word yet on whether @johncmayer has sustained any injuries.

Does Anyone Else have Something Further To Add?
posted by Neil

Good morning. I cannot stay long as deadlines are happening.

Cat Mihos, in association with the CBLDF, has made the most beautiful print of Jim Lee's glorious pencil-art to accompany my poem "100 Words". It's lettered by Todd Klein for the print. (Click on it in order to actually see it at readable size.) She decided that the first 24 hours it was on sale at her neverwear.net site, it would be $35, going up to $45 the following day. I linked to it on Twitter and... crashed the site. (Or possibly, crashed the shopping cart. I'm not sure.)

So Cat is extending the sale until the end of Monday, when she gets home, to apologise, and to allow people to get to it. You can read all about it (and see lots of Cat's candid snaps, including one of me in a 20 foot long Tom Baker style Doctor Who scarf I was sent by a reader who knits and likes Doctor Who and thought I needed one) over at http://kittysneverwear.blogspot.com

And on the subject of photos, KImberly Butler is out at the house right now to shoot photos of me, with her daughter Caitlin as a camera assistant. She is a remarkable photographer (http://www.kimberlybutler.com is her website). She's here because I am the Honorary Chair of National Library Week next year (details at this ALA website).

She's taking pictures of me to find one that could be used as a poster for National Library Week, and for press releases. Here are a few of the photos from yesterday, raw from her camera. I put up a selection at http://twitpic.com/photos/neilhimself. Here are four of my favourites. One of them is not of me.

(Strangest twitter comment this morning was from the person who told me off for surgically trimming my dog's ears. Someone who, I assume, has never encountered a German Shepherd or has any idea what their ears do.)

During the shoot Lorraine brought me tea. I got happy. Kimberly kept shooting.

Princess the cat and deformed bunnies (and a two-headed teddy). Probably will not be a National Library Week poster.

(This photo and the one below will be cut off at the edge by the journal website. Click on them to see the full photo.)

Does anyone else have something further to add?

I go. Maddy's violin recital, a short story and an introduction are waiting. Zoom.

Wouldn't usually complain, but I am seriously confused
I may just be kind of butthurt about this, being the offended party in this scenario...

But if you are going to hold RP auditions for a group that is known for cohesiveness and ability to work as a highly effective unit... Why would you pick everyone EXCEPT the players who were clearly plotting, collaborating, and working off each other's posts?

Why pick the person who only posted a single, COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT post at the beginning of the audition, which everyone ignored due to being completely nonsensical?

You're 22, still in college, and have been working at the same job for almost two years now. You currently make $9.91 and have been told that there will be no raises given in 2010. Usually you get two raises per year at a measly .20/hour, at best.

Do you keep on truckin' at your current job, or start looking for something better?

And it's a clean rip too!
Mostly for Kate and Moment, but it's an amusing 70s music parody in any case.

Kate bought me some DVDs last weekend. I found the following as the music on the extras menu screen. Naturally, I had to make a copy.

Enjoy!

I swear I'm working on productive work. :P

Dragon Age:Origins 30% off digital download, buuuuuut...
I got an e-mail from EA saying their store was doing a 30% discount on all downloadable games from 23-27. I thought, hey, cool. Dragon Age origins cheaper. I recieved the e-mail today, though it says the sale starts the 23rd of november.

So two things. They are making it VERY difficult to find out how the promotion works.(Currently its listed as the same price as EBgames.com). Second, from what I've read on google their policy for your downloads is aweful.

I'm debating buying DA:O from Ebgames, not sure if I'll enjoy the game or not. Figured i'd give you all a heads up about the sale and the download thingy.

What was the last thing to scare or surprise you?

I came home from running some errands, sat down at my computer to read AMA, went to hit the back button after reading some comments, and saw this on my monitor.

UGH!

It's still there. :(

Jon & Kate's Divorce Could Be Finalized by Year's End

Jon Gosselin showed up for a daylong divorce arbitration hearing Saturday with a bouquet of long-stemmed red roses for Kate – only to have her turn them down and later leave the courthouse empty-handed.

But while Jon wasn't able to say it with flowers, the former couple were able to express themselves well in other ways, leading to a "successful and productive" session, his lawyer Mark Heller tells PEOPLE.

Trina Confirms “Let Them Hoes Fight”
Current Music Beyoncé - Halo | Powered by Last.fm
Remember when that 44 second clip of a rumored Trina song feat. Lady GaGa came out and people said it was fake? Well in this XXL Magazine interview with Trina, she confirms that the song is infact real and it is really GaGa singing on it with her!

XXLMag.com: Did this new ear for pop music inspire the Lady Gaga record, “Let Them Hoes Fight?”

Trina: That’s a record that came out, but we didn’t actually clear it to come out. I just hate the fact that stuff like that happens. I have a lot of respect for Lady Gaga and being able to work with her meant so much to me and to have it come out like that was just disappointing to me. Jim Jonsin actually reached out to me about being on the record and when I heard the record I went nuts. I love her music. I love how creatively over the top she is. I didn’t get to work with her in the studio personally, but to get to do the record was an honor.

You can listen to a clip of the song below.

Something nicer
Have any of you ever read "Marvel Zombies"? I've been checking it out at Borders and the series is just great, it makes me think of when I was a little kid and all comic books were engrossing and magical. The best part of the series is book 3, that features a very snarky Aaron Stack, AKA machine man.
